Great sailing cinema on the fjord: despite winning the final, the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club was tied on points with the new North German cup winners

What a final! On the cup weekend, the Flensburger Segel-Club came out on top in the battle for the pot against the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club off Glücksburg by the narrowest of margins. After a total of 45 races, the North Germans and the Berliners had clearly pulled away from the chasing pack and decided the battle for the league cup between themselves. The duel came to an even end. But it was the Flensburg team with helmsman Jan Hauke Erichsen, Cedric Menzel, Jan Frigge and Nils Carstensen who lifted "Das Ding" into the sky above Glücksburg.

Skipper Erichsen happily summarised: "Today on day two - in contrast to yesterday - we were not quite as strong. The conditions were very difficult today and so we lost valuable points to our pursuers from VSaW. In the end, however, it was still enough to win. We are delighted to have won the trophy on our home turf."

Although the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club with helmsman Tim Elsner, Annika Bochmann, Yannek Wloch and Julian Bergemann managed to equalise the score with an impressive victory in the last race - both leading teams finished the cup fight on equal points with 27 points - the Flensburg team had won a total of eight races, seven of them in a row (!) on the first day. That was three more than the Berlin team had to show for their efforts. Third place, 8.75 points behind the two leading club crews, was secured by the two-time club champions from the German Touring Yacht Club with Julian Stückl, Sebastian Bühler, Dominik Müller and Laura Fischer.

30 clubs from all over Germany competed in the DSL Cup off Glücksburg this weekend. For the first time, ambitious club teams from the German Junior Sailing League and the four regional leagues were able to compete with the top finishers from the 1st and 2nd German Sailing League. The winners included Seglergemeinschaft Lohheider See (4th place) and Lübecker Segler-Verein (5th place), who were able to retain their class and will also be able to compete in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2018. However, four of the six participating second division teams from this season that were at risk of relegation were unable to maintain their place in the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga and will be relegated. These are the Entdecker- und Seefahrer Fördervereinigung, the Segler-Verein Stade, the Segel-Club Ville and the Duisburger Yacht-Club, which did not take part in the DSL Cup.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
